I Let AI Plan My Entire Cruise — Here's What It Got Wrong

Everyone's asking AI to plan trips now, so we decided to actually test it: budget, dates, and a request for a full 7-day Caribbean cruise, itinerary and all, no follow-up questions allowed beyond what a first-time cruiser would think to ask. The result read like a great trip on the page. Here's where it quietly fell apart.

It quoted the fare like it was the total price

The plan led with a per-person fare and built the whole "budget" around it, with no line for gratuities, drinks, wifi, or excursions. That's the single most common mistake we see travelers make on their own — an AI tool made the exact same one, confidently.

It didn't know the itinerary had already changed

Port schedules, embarkation times, and even ship deployments shift more often than people expect — the itinerary it described no longer matched the actual sailing for that ship and season. It had no way to check, and no way to know that it didn't know.

Where it was actually useful
